Rothbury (15 minutes drive from West Acre House) is "The capital of Coquetdale" - a very picturesque area of Alnwick District, serving the villages of Alwinton, Netherton, Harbottle, Thropton. Set in Northumberland's Hill Country, Rothbury is an ideal base for walking in the Simonside Hills and Cheviots.

  • Harley's Tea Room & Gifts - situated in Bridge Street, Rothbury. Highly recommended. Excellent family run tea room with the emphasis on quality customer first service. Also an excellent place to buy quality gifts with a varied selection of decorative and unusual items for sale. A place we use regularly and highly recommend. Open daytime, serving until 4pm.
    Closed Wednesday & Thursday. Open for Sunday Lunches. To book tel. 01669 620240
  • Elm Tree House - situated in High Street, Rothbury, nice quiche, freshly made sandwiches
    and home made cakes. Open daytime only.
  • Sun Kitchen - situated in High Street, Rothbury. A well established tea room with light lunches and "teas" Open day time only.
  • Newcastle Hotel - situated in the centre of Rothbury, serve lunches and evening meals. Under new management, waiting for reviews!

  • Weldon Bridge (20 minutes drive) - a tiny hamlet at the junction of the A697 and the B6344 about 5 miles
    (10 minutes) east of Rothbury
  • The Anglers Arms - Weldon Bridge, a lovely old country Inn, with typical country pub interior, warm and friendly, serves lunch and dinner. Tel. 01665 570271
