Alnwick has several pubs in or near the town centre all of which
offer food, there are also several restaurants and bistros most
of which are open 7 days a week. We have also included
a selection of places to eat in the villages around Alnwick, Rothbury,
Alnmouth, Craster, and we will add to the list as we go along. (This
isn't a definitive list but rather it has been compiled following
personal recommendations)

The Sanctuary - at Alnwick Castle, a contemporary venue, in the grounds of Alnwick Castle, access is via Bow Alley. A very good menu, reasonably priced, and excellent food. Our Guests have recently given it good revues! Open Monday to Thursday 10am - 7pm with an evening menu (2 courses for £10) between 4.30pm and 7pm. Lilburns -
situated in
Paikes Lane, Alnwick, just off Bondgate within, Opposite "Boots" and on a lane connecting Bondgate Within to the Market Place (paikes Street). This is a modern style bistro on two floors, with a nice family atmosphere and good food. Service is exceptional! Open every day except Sunday, and closed Sunday and Monday evenings. 01665 603444.
Caffé Tirreno
authentic Italian with Italian chef, the food is excellent and the service friendly and relaxed. You cannot reserve a table here but even if the restaurant looks full don't despair as the turnover of tables is quite rapid. Situated on Bondgate Without, Alnwick, just to the east of the Bondgate Tower.

Dalchini's Indian Restaurant, situated at 15 Narrowgate, in Alnwick. Several guests have recently dined there and have had a very good meal. The restaurant is said to be open for lunch and dinner every day of the week. To book a table telephone 01665 606336
Queens Head Hotel, situated in Market Street, Alnwick. (the main street) Like all pubs now, the Queens Head is now 'non-smoking' and guests who have ate here have enjoyed their food. Service was good, and dining room very pleasant. For further enquiries Tel. 01665 604691
Louis Steak House & Bistro, situated on the corner of the Market Place and Market Street, Alnwick. The main restaurant is on the first floor above the bistro. The restaurant is the concept of Alnwick butcher Mark Turnbull and is proving popular with locals and visitors. Open Tuesday to Saturday 5.30pm - 10.30pm. (Phone re Sunday). The Oaks Hotel situated at the junction of South Road and Alnmouth Road, Alnwick. At the mini roundabout as you come in to Alnwick. The small hotel is popular among diners. It has a carvery weekday evenings, from around 5 - 7 pm, and orders can be taken from the a la carte menu

The
Tree House - Alnwick Garden Wednesday to Saturday Evenings, a interesting location, the
tree house in Alnwick Garden serves food from a variable a la carte
menu. Jazz nights are a popular theme at this venue. You often need to book ahead.
(If you wish to eat here during the day,
an admission charge to the Garden would be payable!)

The
Art House situated a couple of doors further on from the Tower Restaurant,
go through a cartoon painted white plank door into an alleyway and
up the stairs. Not only will you find good food here, but also a
range of interesting original artwork. Live music some nights!

The Cook & Barker situated just off the A1 in the hamlet of Newton-On-The-Moor about 5 minutes south of Alnwick. The Cook & Barker is a very popular venue for eating out so booking ahead for the restaurant is necessary. To reserve a table 01665 575234
Grannies Delicatessen situated in Narrowgate opposite
the junction of Fenkle Street. They have a cellar restaurant serving freshly prepared food. The Deli is very good. Open daytime only. 01665 602394.

Carlo's - Fish & Chips, sit in or eat out. Situated in Market Street, Alnwick, on the south
side of the main street above the cobbled car park. Open most days
- all day and into the evening. We use Carlo's ourselves, and the quality is usually very good.
Tower Restaurant situated just inside Bondgate Within, opposite Threshers Wine Shop. A modern bistro style place with good food, good rating by our guests, food reasonably priced. Booking ahead might be useful for main season on an evening. Tel. 01665 603888.
Blackmore's Restaurant situated 100yds or so east of the Bondgate Tower, near Alnwick Town centre, the restaurant once the Plough Hotel has been newly converted to offer a contemporary dinning experience. John Blackmore is the resident Chef and partner in the venture.

Eglingham (10 minutes drive)
A hamlet on the road from Alnwick towards Wooler and Chillingham.
The Tankerville Arms, situated about
6 miles west of Alnwick via the B6346, in the hamlet of Eglingham.
